Ed Roop was born on May 7, 1955 in Belsprings, Va. and saved at a Watchnight service at Gethsemane Baptist Church on Dec. 31, 1974. In March, 1975, he surrendered his life to the ministry and started attending Piedmont Bible College in August. He graduated from PBC with a Bachelor of Theology degree. On May 24, 1980 he married Teresa Thornton. He has taken graduate courses from Bethany Theological Seminary and Liberty University and hopes to attain both a master and doctorate in the near future. He has served as a youth pastor and pastor in addition to teaching at WBCS since 1982. His wife, Teresa, teaches sixth grade at WBCS. His three children, now married, are graduates of WBCS and involved in Christian education. He has two grandchildren, Alexa and Tabitha, who are “poppy’s true joys." He loves all sports, having coached every sport but cheerleading at WBCS as well as serving as Athletic Director on two occasions. His interests include Duke basketball and Dodger baseball, as well as the Andy Griffith show. His life verse is Gal. 2:20 "I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me."
