Alumni Information
Woodland Baptist Christian School held its annual Homecoming Festivities on Friday, January 16, 2009, and as Homecomings go, a Queen was selected – Miss Chelsea Mack, a King was selected – Mr. Seth Spease, WBCS won every single basketball game, and a great time was had by all.
But…This Homecoming was a little different.
This was the last scheduled Homecoming for WBCS to be held on the Patterson Avenue Campus.
The church and school will be relocating to a new facility, which is located on Rural Hall-Bethania Road in Winston-Salem, NC. The new facility is currently under construction.
This was the realization of all the good times, all the bad times, all the memories, all the friendships made, and the “letting go” of the legacy and tradition of a structure that through God’s Will housed a family of believers who will always share in the trials and blessings of its hallways.
We celebrated with Assistant Administrator, Ms. Deborah Tapscott, for her 40 years of service with WBCS, and we welcomed back Alumni, Faculty and Staff, Friends and Family to the school for this historical event.
Over 140 Alumni attended, ranging from members of the first Senior Class of 1977 to the recent Class of 2008 Graduates! And over 20 former and present day Faculty and Staff members were in attendance! The list included: Mrs. Wanda Dotson, Mrs. Martha Fulk, Mrs. Donna Groce, Mr. Ronald and Mrs. Lou Quesinberry, Rev. Ed Sears, Mrs. Susan Towe, and Mrs. Wilma West.
Mrs. Tonya Cobb-Hardy, Mr. Ed and Mrs. Teresa Roop, Mrs. Rebecca Strebig-Bottoms, and Ms. Deborah Tapscott are all still Faculty members at WBCS!
WBCS Administrator, Steve Holley, introduced former WBCS Cheerleaders to lead the crowd in the Alma Mater between the Varsity Girls and Varsity Boys Basketball games.
A Memorial Book was compiled to remember those students, teachers, and faculty and staff that we have loved and lost.
Old times were discussed and happy thoughts abounded. Those who could not attend the event were missed!!!!
So ends another chapter in the treasured history of WBCS. Though the school’s structure may represent it, it is truly the people who supported each other, befriended each other, cared for each other, and did not judge each other, for whom our hearts are warmed.
May the Lord continue to bless WBCS, the Home of the Eagles and the Black, Gold, and White!!!
